The Port Nikau development is managed by DC Group on behalf of two family groups and includes commercial developments, residential, and marine facilities.
Over the last 10 years, DC Group has led a project to convert the ex-Harbour Board land at Port Nikau into an exciting large-scale urban environment in central Whangārei. Port Nikau offers Whangārei a new way of living, a community situated on the stunning Whangārei Harbour.
The Port Nikau Masterplan was developed in collaboration with Construkt Architects and Reyburn and Bryant and adopted by the Whangārei District Council into the Whangārei District Plan in 2020. The Masterplan includes over 1,250 dwellings plus a town centre with 6,000m2 of retail, hospitality and commercial activities. The full 55-hectare housing development has been influenced by the latest urban design and building trends worldwide. It will consist of a wide and varied range of lot sizes and building typologies, so residents can choose a way of life that best suits them. Building typologies include 2, 3 and 4-bedroom standalone houses, terraced houses, apartments and mixed-use home/office type buildings.
Implementing the Masterplan is an ongoing project which includes developing detailed engineering plans, precinct subdivisions and bulk earthworks.

DC Group project manages land subdivision, new commercial builds and site developments as well as a portfolio of existing tenants. The popular Logyard Road area in Port Nikau has grown significantly since the first lots became available in 2015, offering businesses a unique opportunity for flat sections within one of Whangārei’s premium commercial zones with close proximity to the CBD and State Highway One.
Both new and existing businesses in the engineering, transport, manufacturing and storage sectors have already recognised the advantages of the prime location, contributing to the growing commercial precinct at Logyard Road. Recently major brands Isuzu and Mainfreight have also invested in the area.
DC Group (previously Westpoint Management Ltd) completed the original subdivision on behalf of Port Nikau and continues to extend the precinct and prepare yards and customised build-to-lease developments for tenants and owners.

The Tide Gauge building is a historic and iconic building with a unique setting in the Whangārei Harbour. The wharf and building was built in the 1960s to support the local industry and provide facilities for the Northland Harbour Board and waterside workers. It also houses the Tide Gauge Machine which reads the harbour tides, previously providing important information for visiting vessels and the former Whangārei port.
In 2020, on behalf of Port Nikau, DC Group undertook a major renovation of the building, which was run down and disused. The building interior was re-designed to achieve a functional modern space while retaining the architecture of the iconic building architecture. Upstairs has been converted into a spacious office and base for the Port Nikau development while the lower storey is now a café and restaurant with outstanding views from a unique on-water setting.
The Tide Gauge Machine still sits in the exact place where it was once read daily by the Port’s electronics engineer until the mid-1990s.

DC Group manages the Port Nikau wharf and marine facilities, which host a range of vessels such as commercial ships, yachts and launches, fishing boats, workboats and charter vessels. The wharves are used by many vessels as a base for large refit work within Whangārei’s world-renowned marine precinct, with an extensive range of marine businesses in the area offering their expertise, as Port Nikau was formerly home to Whangārei’s city port until 2007.
We recently designed and managed a construction project to build a marina facility on behalf of Port Nikau specifically suited to Superyachts. The floating pontoon is set up for stern-to, Mediterranean style berthage and can cater for three vessels up to 65 metres.
DC Group manages the ongoing operations of this and other marinas and wharves at Port Nikau, Whangārei.

Converting unproductive and slip-prone farmland into a 25-year forestry rotation near Whananaki is a passion project for the owners of Westpoint Landholdings Ltd, a subsidiary of DC Group. The project supports both long-term goals of a perpetual asset base and sustainable land use while protecting the coastal environment.
By removing grazing animals and planting a renewable forest, the water quality of tributaries to the coast is constantly improving. The development also includes over 20 hectares of native plantings to connect existing native forest blocks and create continuous native wildlife corridors for endemic species including kiwi. Native wildlife and plantings are supported by ongoing pest and weed management programmes.
